The commitment to environmental sustainability has been reiterated on Earth Day 2017 for sustained protection of our planet—the very place Asian Tigers Group calls home. As an international relocation solutions provider, Asian Tigers recognizes that contributing to sustainable business practices in all one’s activities is critical. Many of the activities and ongoing efforts this Earth Day have been toward reducing their impact on the environment and building a culture of sustainability among employees and clients.
One of the most critical steps in green practices that Asian Tigers are currently undertaking is the implementation of green packing materials. Traditional packing materials, mainly consisting of non-biodegradable plastics and other harmful substances, significantly contribute to environmental degradation. The Asian Tigers implemented green alternatives such as biodegradable bubble wraps, recycled cardboard, and multiple-use crates, significantly cutting their usage of harmful materials. The benefit of the shift is twofold: not only does this help in reducing wastes, but it also sets some sort of standard in the relocation industry and prompts other companies to do likewise.
Another area in which Asian Tigers have intensively made huge investments is in energy-efficient technologies. To a great extent, the company has fitted its warehouse and offices with LED lighting systems, energy-efficient HVAC units, and motion-sensor lights, reducing energy consumption in so many ways. These have greatly contributed to reducing the carbon footprint of the company, therefore contributing to global efforts against climate change. Additionally, there is the need for a full-cycle recycling program within all locations, ensuring paper, plastic, and e-wastes are effectively recycled and landfilled.
Another key component of the sustainability strategy at Asian Tigers is employee engagement. The company believes that engaging its workforce in a culture of environmental responsibility is the key to the success of its green initiatives. To that end, the Asian Tigers arrange training and workshops at regular intervals to educate employees on matters of sustainability. These sessions will moreover encompass very wide-ranging subjects, including inter alia, energy conservation, waste management, and sustainable commuting options. In this way, Asian Tigers ensures that sustainability is woven into all aspects of its operations by empowering employees with the proper knowledge and tools to make environmentally conscious decisions.
Asian Tigers extends its commitment to sustainability through relocation solutions that are eco-friendly for clients. This would typically include carbon-neutral moving services with green packing options. The company will encourage the clients to choose such sustainable alternatives and also provide them with detailed information related to the environment if they opt for this choice. This proactive action by the company will help the client lessen their ecological footprint but will also help to spread awareness regarding sustainability in the relocation industry.
A ‘Guava’ tree was planted at the company premises on 20 April 2017, in conjunction with Earth Day, by top management at Asian Tigers Singapore: Gordon Bell, John Lim, and John Koh. It is symbolic, on one hand—a gesture for corporate responsibility to the environment—but a constant reminder to all of the need to nurture and protect our natural environment.
The Singapore team adopted another 150 plants at S$6 each as part of their CSR, where the funds will be donated to a chosen charity. This generally exhibits Asian Tigers’ commitment to giving back to society by participating in charitable causes. In doing so, Asian Tigers has taken its Earth Day activities to a different level altogether by incorporating aspects of CSR and therefore strongly indicates that environmental sustainability and social responsibility go hand in hand.
Added to this are the internal efforts; Asian Tigers also actively participates in community-based environmental activities. For instance, during Earth Day 2017, it had, together with the local environmental organizations, implemented tree planting, clean-up drives, and educational campaigns. All of these activities make their contribution to the local environment and engage a meaningfully large part of the community, thereby putting it into a sense of responsibility towards the planet.
The efforts that the company has put into becoming a sustainable company have not gone unnoticed. Adding to the many accolades and certifications, Asian Tigers received ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system. These recognitions proved to be a truly wonderful endorsement of the company’s commitment to making sustainability part of its mainstays in business operation.
Looking ahead, Asian Tigers work toward further enhancements in the realm of sustainability. Seeking out new technologies and even better ways to work in order to decrease its impact on the environment even more raises it to a supreme level: from an increasing fleet of electric vehicles to cutting-edge waste management systems, Asian Tigers is doing it all in its sustainability journey.
In summary, Earth Day 2017 marked another important milestone taken by Asian Tigers Group toward being a steward of the environment. This company pioneers the roadmap to sustainability in the relocation industry through the adoption of innovative practices, staff engagement, client education, and community involvement. This is the world fighting to save the environment, and Asian Tigers is setting an example before all people on how business can be a game-changer in securing the planet for future generations.
