Checking off the summer activities bucket list
26 Jul 2022
Amid COVID-19, we have paused our traveling plans for a long time. Our travel bucket list keeps expanding every day, a summer holiday in Asia might check off some of those activities on your summer activities bucket list. If you’re an expat or traveler in Asia looking for some new experiences, adventure, and excitement this summer, you don’t have to travel very far.
In that light, here are 6 ideas on how you can make the most out of your holidays without international travel:
White water rafting in Borneo, Malaysia
An adrenaline-filled day trip, white water rafting in Borneo, Malaysia, is the roller coaster experience of a lifetime. The Padas River and the Kiulu River are popular rafting destinations, with swirling rapids for beginners and experienced rafters. The journey to the beautiful countryside area is an experience in itself, which visitors can go there by train. Borneo has several boat rental spots with experienced coaches who will guide you through the experience.
Jet-packing in Singapore
Have you ever wanted to check out what the view looks like at 10 feet above water level while at sea? If you’re craving real excitement and adventure in Singapore, head to Sentosa for jet-packing. Derived from jetski technology, this water- propelled jet pack gives you the thrill of being airborne without the fear of falling. In Singapore, qualified experts will take you through a rigorous safety briefing before you begin. While it may be a challenge for some, it can be the ultimate water sports experience of a lifetime once you get the hang of it.
Kayaking in Vietnam
Summer sports don’t always have to be of the thrill-seeking variety. Vietnam’s Halong Bay is the ideal destination for someone who wants to try kayaking. The bay’s magnificent landscape is dotted with several beautiful kayaking spots, such
as Luon Cave, Vung Vieng Fishing Village, Cap La Island, Ba Hang Fishing Village, Tung Sau Area, Cua Van Fishing Village, Trinh Nu Cave, Cong Do Island, and Hon Co Island. Kick back and relax as you paddle through the magical, awe- inspiring experience. A relaxing water sport, kayaking is perfect for families.
Windsurfing in Indonesia
Indonesia’s tropical climate and strong winds make it the ideal destination for windsurfing. Bali is easily the most popular destination that attracts surfers to several spots around the island, with easy access to trainers and gear. However, there are several quieter, more attractive destinations off-the-beaten-path elsewhere in Indonesia. One of these is Ekas Bay, Lombok, with broad lagoons and winds favorable to surfers of all abilities. The conditions here remain ideal all year round, making it the perfect spot to settle down for a chilled-out summer.
Scuba diving in Thailand
If you’re more of an explorer than a thrill-seeker, gear up and take the plunge into Thailand’s waters. The untouched underwater wilderness has a beauty of its own, filled with diverse sea life, coral reefs, caverns, and tunnels. Some of the country’s best diving spots are Similan Islands, Surin Islands, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, and Phuket Islands. Summertime is the best time of year to venture out into the Gulf of Thailand and explore the crystal-clear marine world.
Stand-un Paddleboarding in Hond Kond
Stand-up Paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the more popular outdoor sports that people can enjoy during Hong Kong’s long, hot summers. SUP originated in Hawaii decades ago when conventional surfers added a paddle to their regular surfboard for extra propulsion. SUP has many health benefits. The standing posture used in SUP tones the entire body, especially the core muscles of the abdomen. Tim Tao of Asian Tigers Hong Kong is a big fan of SUP; check out his interview with us by clicking here.
