On Saturday, July 1, 2017, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai held a gala to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Canada. What a milestone celebration—right at the fairytale Waitanyuan with thousands attending the festivities. Asian Tigers Group was proud to be a Tent Sponsor for this big event, bringing together a day of colourful Canadian Culture, Delicious Food, Live Music, Arts, and many more exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Scenic beauty and historic importance made Waitanyuan an ideal place for this celebration. Canadian flags and decorations added to the national pride and festivity of the venue. As the visitors reached the venue, they found many tents and stalls that showcased a single facet of Canadian culture and traditions. The Asian Tigers tent stood apart, with warmth and enthusiasm flowing in its very welcome to its guests, exuding the spirit of the day.

While one of the real highlights to this event was the excellent Canadian food on tap all day, food stalls offer visitors a variety of traditional Canadian delicacies like poutine, delicious confectionery infused with maple syrup, and barbecues. The smell of freshly cooked food hovered in the air, beckoning visitors to join in and taste these culinary delicacies. The food not only satisfied the appetites of the attending public but also provided a delicious way to experience Canadian culture firsthand.

The other major attraction was live music, featuring performers who kept the energy level quite high and the crowd well-entertained. The performances featured local and Canadian acts playing a mix of traditional and contemporary pieces. It was the nature of the music to be very upbeat, joyful, and make one feel to move your body by the rhythm, sing along, and feel the moment. There was diversity in the lineup, which meant that there was something for everyone—from rock and folk to pop and classical.

Another large part of the event was arts and crafts. There were numerous tents displaying several Canadian art, including paintings, sculptures, and handmade crafts. Workshops were available where one could have a go at self-expression by making personal pieces of art. This provided a funny yet educational experience for both children and adults. The activities not only displayed the artistic talents that exist in the Canadian community but also involved visitors in a creative and joyful way.

There were many family-friendly activities to see to it that every visitor had a good time regardless of age. These ranged from games for children to face painting and a kids’ zone that was full of activity specifically for the kids. With so much going on at this all-inclusive event, families would have the opportunity to enjoy quality time together while discovering the many facets of Canadian culture and experiencing some of the myriad entertaining activities on offer.

Sponsorship and participation by the Asian Tigers Group served as proof of their concern for community engagement and cultural events. Their tent was abuzz as people visited to find out more about what services could be provided to them, and to partake in the celebrations. Staff showed eagerness to get among the throngs of people who turned up at the event, distributing information and partaking in the celebratory flavor of the day.

The success of the event gleamed in the laughter and smiling faces of the many thousands of patrons. It was a unifying celebration to have such a unique opportunity to bring together a diversified group of people to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. Delicious food, fantastic music, engaging arts, and family activities are but a few things that put this event at the top when it comes to vitality and festivity.

In summary, the success of the Canada 150 anniversary celebration in Shanghai was held with a great turn of events, thanks in part to the efforts of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the kind support of sponsors such as Asian Tigers Group. It really did give wonderful opportunities to the Shanghai community to experience and celebrate Canadian culture. The presence of the Asian Tigers Group added flavor to this memorable day by underscoring the message of cultural exchange and community spirit. It was, sure enough, an unforgettable joy on the part of all those attending the Waitanyuan festivals to mark a milestone in the celebration of Canadian heritage and international friendship.
