In collaboration with the US Embassy, this initiative aimed to support low-income families through the South East Community Development Council (SE CDC). The event was part of AmCham’s 2018 Corporate Community Day demonstrating the effort of organizations in giving back to the community.

The atmosphere at Bedok Reservoir Park was vibrant and purposeful as participants united for a cause. This year’s “Walk for Rice” witnessed a turnout with 515 individuals taking part in the walk. The goal was simple yet impactful; for every 100 meters walked one bowl of rice would be donated to a family in Singapore. This endeavor not only promoted activity but also emphasized the significance of community support and unity.

The event kicked off with a welcome from the organizers creating an ambiance for the day ahead. Participants, including the team from Asian Tigers Singapore, were eager and prepared to contribute to this initiative. The pathway around Bedok Reservoir Park offered a setting for the walk with lush green surroundings and serene waters enhancing the experience. As the participants strolled along the designated pathway, they chatted and exchanged stories. Together they built a sense of camaraderie.

The importance of the walk was highlighted by the outcomes achieved. The recent “Walk for Rice” event saw a doubling of contributions compared to the year resulting in over 22,000 bowls of rice being raised for those in need. This success was a demonstration of the commitment and generosity shown by all participants and sponsors. The event’s impact was not measured by the quantity of rice donated but by the increased awareness created about the struggles faced by low-income families in our community.

Asian Tigers Singapore’s involvement in the “Walk for Rice” event showcased their dedication to responsibility and community involvement. The company’s employees were honored to take part in such an initiative dedicating their time and energy to create a change. Their participation reflected the company’s core values of compassion, collaboration and social accountability further establishing their position as a member of the community.

Moreover, this event provided an opportunity for participants to connect with individuals and organizations. The presence of partners like the US Embassy and other corporations highlighted the nature of this effort demonstrating how working together can result in significant benefits for our community. The connections and conversations during the walk strengthened bonds and created a feeling of togetherness among the participants.

As the walk came to an end there was a sense of pride and achievement in the air among those involved. The successful collection of more than 22,000 bowls of rice was met with cheers and appreciation marking the occasion as a milestone in aiding low-income families. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all attendees emphasizing the impact that collective actions can have on improving the lives of those in need.

To sum up, the “Walk for Rice” event held at Bedok Reservoir Park on October 27 2018 was highly successful. The involvement of Asian Tigers Singapore and various individuals and groups played a role in doubling contributions from the year. This event not gathered an amount of rice for disadvantaged families but also underscored the importance of community involvement and corporate social responsibility. Beyond providing aid, this year’s “Walk for Rice” event promoted unity and dedication towards assisting those less fortunate. Its success serves as a testament to what can be accomplished when communities unite for a shared purpose.
