The 31st Pangaea Cup International Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament brought teams from across the region to The Villages Sports Complex in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, Philippines, from March 6 to 8, 2026. What might have been a straightforward sporting event became something far more meaningful: a gathering that highlighted both the challenges teams face and the resilience that defines true competition.
For the Asian Tigers Fattboyz, this tournament represented more than just an opportunity to compete. It was a moment to reflect on community, loyalty, and the bonds that hold a team together through difficult times.
Competing Against the Odds
The 31st Pangaea Cup drew athletes determined to test their skills on the international stage. Yet this year’s tournament took place against a backdrop of significant global uncertainty. The situation in the Middle East affected nearly every team participating, as many players found themselves unable to travel. International mobility, whether for sport or relocation, can be disrupted by circumstances beyond anyone’s control. As a moving company that understands the complexities of global transitions, Asian Tigers recognizes that planning and preparation must sometimes adapt to unforeseen challenges.
Despite these complications, the Fattboyz remained competitive throughout the tournament. They brought their preparation, their passion, and their commitment to the field. While they ultimately fell short of their goal of claiming a title this year, their presence at the tournament itself was a statement of dedication. Every team that showed up in Pampanga, regardless of the obstacles they overcame to get there, deserves recognition for that commitment.
Congratulations to all the winners and teams who made the 31st Pangaea Cup a success. These tournaments are truly special because they bring together people from different backgrounds and countries, united by a shared love of the sport and the values it represents: teamwork, preparation, and respect for one another.
Honoring Those We Have Lost
What made this tournament particularly significant for the Fattboyz was the weight of recent losses. The team recently experienced the unexpected passing of Ed Caputo, an original Fattboyz member who was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. Just as devastating, they had previously lost Ricky Huggins, one of their USA Fattboyz members who was an extremely popular teammate and the only member of their program ever inducted into the USA Softball Hall of Fame.
These losses represent more than statistics or tournament records. They remind us that the people behind every team, every organization, and every company are irreplaceable. Whether in sport or in our industry, the movers and professionals who show up day after day, who build relationships with colleagues and clients, and who pour their hearts into their work create legacies that extend far beyond any single event.
At Asian Tigers Group, we understand the value of loyalty and long-term commitment. Just as the Fattboyz carry forward the memory of Ed and honor the legacy of Ricky, our teams across Asia are built on the contributions of people who dedicate years and decades to relocation services. From the movers who carefully pack each shipment to the coordinators who manage complex logistics, from the warehouse teams who maintain secure storage facilities to the leadership that sets our standards. Each person matters. Each person is remembered.
The spirit of the Fattboyz, even in the face of loss, reflects something vital: the ability to move forward while honoring what came before. That same spirit is at the heart of what we do every day.
Global Mobility and the Challenges of Travel
The decision to skip the May event in Vietnam and reschedule the next gathering for September in Indonesia speaks to a broader reality that extends far beyond softball. Global circumstances affect travel, mobility, and planning in ways both large and small.
As a moving company operating across Asia, we navigate these complexities routinely. International relocation requires flexibility, careful planning, and the ability to adapt timelines when circumstances shift. Families count on us when they need to relocate across borders. Companies rely on us to transfer employees and equipment despite changing global conditions. These transitions are not always straightforward. Sometimes, like the Fattboyz, we must adjust our plans and reschedule for a better moment.
The Fattboyz’s decision to prioritize safety and pragmatism over proceeding with original plans demonstrates wisdom. Similarly, professionals in relocation services must remain alert to global developments, regulatory changes, and circumstances that affect the logistics of moving people and their belongings.
Building Community Across Borders
What makes tournaments like the Pangaea Cup valuable is not always the medals or trophies. It is the opportunity to build community across borders. Athletes travel from different countries, bringing their skills, their stories, and their passion for the sport. They compete fiercely, then celebrate together afterward. They create connections that transcend national boundaries.
The relocation industry works in much the same way. Our movers, coordinators, and storage facility teams serve expatriate communities across Asia. We understand the courage it takes to relocate internationally. We witness the challenges of moving across different regulatory systems, different cultures, and different expectations. And we see firsthand how building connections across borders strengthens every community we serve.
The Fattboyz, despite facing global headwinds, showed up in Pampanga to participate in a community event. That decision to show up, to compete, and to honor both the tournament and their fallen teammates reflects values that transcend sport.
Moving Forward with Purpose
As the Fattboyz look toward September in Indonesia, they carry with them the memory of this tournament, the legacy of Ed and Ricky, and the resilience they have demonstrated through recent challenges. Sport has always been a way for teams to test themselves, to build bonds, and to pursue excellence together.
The same principles apply to every organization. Whether your team manages relocation services or plays softball, success depends on preparation, trust, communication, and the willingness to move forward even when obstacles appear.
