Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow: Reflections on the 2026 FIDI Conference in Osaka

FIDI Global Alliance Conference – Swissôtel Nankai Osaka, Japan –  10–13 May 2026

Under the theme “Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow,” the global moving and relocation community gathered in Osaka this May for the 2026 FIDI Conference, and for Asian Tigers Group it was a homecoming of sorts. Few events capture so completely what our industry is built on: rigorous standards, hard-won trust, and the relationships that make a complex, cross-border business feel personal.

Hosted at the Swissôtel Nankai Osaka from 10 to 13 May, the conference brought hundreds of delegates from more than 100 countries to a city that embodies the theme perfectly. Osaka, the “Kitchen of Japan,” balances centuries of heritage with restless modern energy, from the lanterns of Dotonbori to the stone walls of Osaka Castle. It was a fitting backdrop for an industry that must honour its craft while continually reinventing how it serves customers.

A conference built on quality

The FIDI Global Alliance is the largest global alliance of independent international moving companies, and its mission is refreshingly uncompromising. FIDI is committed to a global mobility world where the highest common standards are defined by quality, sustainability and trust, setting the standard for international movers and, in its own words, never compromising on quality.

That standard is not a slogan. Every FIDI affiliate must hold the FIDI-FAIM quality certification, the most stringent, independently audited benchmark in the international moving industry, verified by a third party (EY). For Asian Tigers Group, FAIM is not a badge collected once and forgotten. It is the operating discipline behind every shipment we handle and every family we relocate across our FIDI-certified offices in Asia.

“Quality is the promise that travels with every shipment. It is what allows a family in one country to trust a team they have never met in another, and it is the standard FIDI exists to defend.”

A legacy that runs deep

Asian Tigers’ connection to FIDI is woven into the company’s history. Our founding figure, Eric Lim, helped shape the modern alliance and in 2006 became the first Asian President of FIDI, a milestone that signalled the industry’s truly global future. His belief was straightforward and has guided Asian Tigers ever since: that standards, not shortcuts, are what build an enduring business, and that the strength of the moving industry lies in the trust its members extend to one another. That conviction sits at the heart of FIDI’s mission, and it is the thread that connects every Asian Tigers office today.

Returning to Osaka, that legacy felt close at hand. Japan is one of our most important markets, and gathering here, among the partners, auditors and peers who hold each other to the FAIM standard, was a reminder of why the work matters.

Looking ahead

If FIDI represents the standards that hold our industry together, the conversations in Osaka made clear that those standards are now being tested and sharpened by rapid change, not least the arrival of artificial intelligence across global mobility. That same theme took centre stage just days later at the OMNI Conference in Kyoto, and it is one Asian Tigers is actively embracing.
