ANZAC BBQ 2017: A Commemorative Gathering

The ANZAC Day BBQ event in 2017 was a memorable gathering held at the prestigious Royal Sheraton Hotel in Thailand. It was organized by New Zealand Society Thailand and Australia-New Zealand Women’s Group, involving peoples from these countries in order to celebrate the event memorably by including them in a lively and interactive way for celebrating the day. Asian Tigers Thailand was happy to participate in the “ANZAC BBQ 2017” last April 23 and add its support to this very important event.

ANZAC Day is a national public holiday celebrated every April 25th basically in remembrance of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps serving and losing members in wars, conflicts, or peacekeeping operations. It’s a day of memory and national pride for both countries, being the anniversary date of the Gallipoli campaign during World War I. At the event, the event in Thailand allowed the expats to join in this celebrated tradition with the community spirit and camaraderie.

The Royal Sheraton Hotel was an ideal place for the ANZAC Day BBQ since it provided lovely and comfortable surroundings against the interest. The spacious outdoor area of the hotel was transformed into a lively scene of BBQ with great food, live entertainment, and fun activities for all. Picturesque surroundings of the hotel added to the beauty of this event and made it warm for every kind of guest.

The event was rounded off by a traditional BBQ feast, with a glimpse of various grilled meats, a hint of the catch of the sea, and a collection of vegetarian options to suit different tastes. Tantalizing aromas from the sizzling barbecues warmed up each guest to try this sumptuous feast. The organizers had ensured that on the menu were noted classic favorites of both Australian and New Zealand cuisines, which gave many expatriates a taste of home. Moreover, this was accompanied by a variety of beverages—fine wines and non-alcoholic drinks to quench thirst.

Speeches and ceremonies were also conducted at the ANZAC Day BBQ in honor of the ANZAC soldiers. The New Zealand Society Thailand and the Australia-New Zealand Women’s Group both sent representatives to speak, recounting stories of bravery and sacrifice. A minute of silence for the fallen soldiers was followed by the playing of the Last Post, a haunting bugle call meaningful in all ANZAC commemorations.

Apart from the memorial aspects, it was a moment towards firming ties within the community. There was socialization through networking and making new friends—tending to feel part and parcel of the group. The event attendance by diplomats, business people, and other members of the community portrayed the significance of the ANZAC tradition and how its existence is still relevant today in the modern world.

Such success of the BBQ for ANZAC Day at the Royal Sheraton Hotel really boiled down to dedicated organizing on the part of the organizers. Each detail had to be, and was, thought through by the New Zealand Society Thailand and the Australia-New Zealand Women’s Group while planning and executing the event. Their effort received, in turn, an overwhelmingly positive response from the attendees to the event, who notably praised the event for great organization, excellent ambiance, and a meaningful tribute to the betterment of the ANZAC legacy.

Overall, 2017’s ANZAC Day BBQ at the Royal Sheraton Hotel in Thailand was simply outstanding, as the Australian and New Zealand communities got together to celebrate the day with memory, tradition, and enjoyment. The event was well-organized by the New Zealand Society Thailand and the Australia-New Zealand Women’s Group to befittingly pay homage to the great soldiers of ANZAC by giving a great experience to the guests.
