Coming Together to Serve the Community
On 23 November 2019, more than 300 volunteers from 19 companies gathered across Singapore to participate in the American Chamber of Commerce’s (AmCham) annual Corporate Community Day (CCD). Held from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, this inspiring event was a showcase of cross-sector collaboration, as businesses, volunteers, and civic leaders came together in a heartfelt effort to give back to local communities.
Asian Tigers Group Singapore was proud to take part in this meaningful initiative, joining fellow AmCham members to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable households in the Bukit Gombak division. Through teamwork, logistics support, and a spirit of generosity, the company contributed to the packing and delivery of over 500 care packages for families in need—reaching a total of approximately 2,400 residents.
What is Corporate Community Day?
Corporate Community Day (CCD) is an annual event organized by AmCham Singapore, designed to encourage member companies to actively participate in community service and social impact projects. It is a day when corporations step out of the boardroom and into neighborhoods, working hand in hand with local partners and residents to address real community needs.
CCD is not only about delivering aid—it’s about fostering connections, building understanding, and reinforcing the idea that business success must be accompanied by social responsibility. Every year, the initiative brings together hundreds of employees from American and multinational companies to support causes ranging from elder care and education to food security and environmental cleanup.
2019: Partnering with Southwest Community Development Council
This year’s CCD was especially impactful thanks to AmCham’s partnership with the Southwest Community Development Council (CDC). The joint mission was clear: to assemble and distribute over 500 care packages to low-income and vulnerable households in Bukit Gombak, a residential area located in the western region of Singapore.
Each care package included daily necessities such as rice, canned food, cooking oil, instant noodles, hygiene products, and other household essentials. These seemingly simple items are vital to families facing financial or health-related challenges. For many recipients, the packages were not just useful—they were a symbol of solidarity and support from the wider community.
Dignitaries and Leadership in Attendance
The significance of the event was underscored by the attendance of several distinguished guests:
- Mayor Low Yen Ling, South West District Mayor, Member of Parliament for Chua Chu Kang GRC
- Mr. Rafik Mansour, Chargé d’Affaires, U.S. Embassy Singapore
- Mr. Dwight Hutchins, Chairman of AmCham Singapore Board of Governors
Their presence highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration and recognized the volunteers’ dedication. During their remarks, the dignitaries commended the participating companies for stepping up to support vulnerable groups and encouraged continued engagement in community-focused initiatives.
Asian Tigers Singapore: Supporting Logistics and Kindness
As a trusted leader in international moving and relocation services, Asian Tigers Singapore brought both logistical expertise and heartfelt commitment to the event. Beginning in early October 2019, the company launched an internal campaign to raise funds for the care package donations. Staff contributed generously—every dollar reflecting a shared belief in helping those in need.
On the day of the event, Asian Tigers employees volunteered their time and skills to assist in various capacities, including:
- Coordinating deliveries and transportation routes
- Packing food and supplies into neatly labeled boxes and bags
- Carrying care packages door-to-door, engaging with residents personally
- Providing warehouse space and logistics knowledge to streamline operations
This hands-on involvement demonstrated the company’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and its strong desire to be more than just a service provider—it aims to be a partner in community building.
Creating a Ripple Effect of Goodwill
Volunteering with CCD gave Asian Tigers Singapore staff more than a sense of contribution—it gave them a deeper understanding of the diverse challenges some families in Singapore face. By interacting directly with recipients, volunteers heard stories of resilience and gratitude, and felt the impact of even small gestures.
One team member shared, “It was humbling to realize how much of a difference a few bags of essential goods can make. Seeing the smiles on people’s faces made every effort worth it.”
Another staff volunteer said, “We may be movers by profession, but today we helped move hearts. It was an experience I’ll never forget.”
These reflections show how community service isn’t just about giving—it’s also about receiving new perspectives, building empathy, and strengthening bonds within the company and with the wider society.
Highlights from the Day
Throughout the morning, energy and positivity filled the air. Volunteers in matching shirts worked side by side, carefully assembling and loading care packages. Laughter and camaraderie were abundant as teams navigated the neighborhoods, delivering items to front doors and exchanging friendly greetings with residents.
Some moments from the day included:
- Elderly residents expressing heartfelt thanks to volunteers with handshakes and warm words
- Young children excitedly helping their families unpack the items
- Volunteers forming human chains to pass packages along narrow corridors of high-rise flats
- Company teams working together outside of their usual work roles, strengthening team spirit
A Stronger, More Connected Singapore
Events like CCD go beyond charity—they build bridges between people, businesses, and government institutions. In a fast-paced, global city like Singapore, it’s easy to overlook those who might be struggling quietly. CCD reminds us that compassion and action can and should be part of the corporate DNA.
For Asian Tigers Singapore, the day reaffirmed its values of service, empathy, and leadership. By stepping out into the community, the company showed that success isn’t just measured in business metrics—it’s also measured by how much a company gives back.
Looking Ahead
Asian Tigers Singapore plans to continue its support for initiatives like CCD, both through AmCham and through its own charitable programs. The company believes in creating long-term value not just for clients, but also for the community.
As Singapore continues to grow and evolve, the role of businesses in fostering inclusive growth and social cohesion will become increasingly important. Events like Corporate Community Day provide a blueprint for how the private sector can act as a force for good.

The AmCham Corporate Community Day 2019 was a powerful reminder of the positive impact that collective action can have. With over 300 volunteers, 19 participating companies, and thousands of residents touched by this initiative, the event was a shining example of community in action.
