Going the Extra Mile: Journey to Cao Bang, Vietnam
A Day of Unity and Celebration at Hong Kong International School
The Hong Kong International School (HKIS) campus experienced a transformation into a multicultural event space filled with color and sound and purpose on Saturday April 13th. The Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) organized the annual World’s Fair which united families with faculty members, alumni, and community partners through an event that combined international celebration with heartfelt philanthropy.
The event, sponsored by Asian Tigers, served as a dual-purpose celebration which combined enjoyment with additional support for those who need help. The event proceeds together with awareness initiatives supported meaningful outreach programs in Cao Bang Vietnam which demonstrated the school community’s dedication to international service.
A Much-Loved Tradition, Reimagined
The World’s Fair at HKIS has long been a spring tradition. The event has evolved into a major school event, which students and staff and parents look forward to every year. This year’s edition went above and beyond in scale, diversity, and impact.
The fair was held across the school grounds and included cultural booths, food stalls, performances, games and interactive activities that were meant to engage people of all ages. The event was filled with energy and enthusiasm from the time the gates opened in the morning until the gates closed in the late afternoon.
A Journey Through Global Flavors
The fair’s main draw was its culinary exploration of international cuisines. The event featured booths from Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa which presented a wide variety of dishes that parent volunteers and local chefs carefully prepared.
People walked between different food stations to taste Thai mango sticky rice, Indian samosas, American burgers, Japanese sushi, Vietnamese pho, Mexican tacos, and French pastries. The food served as more than just nourishment, because booth hosts used their time to explain the historical background and cultural meaning of each dish.
Fun for All Ages: Games, Books, and More
The World’s Fair maintained its family-friendly environment by providing entertainment options for all visitors. The children’s game zone at the event provided endless entertainment through traditional carnival activities including ring toss and fishing ponds and bean bag tosses and inflatable play zones. The venue was filled with the joyful sounds of laughter and cheers which demonstrated the happiness of basic pleasures.
The used book sale booth served as a valuable resource for people who wanted to explore new knowledge. The booth received its books from community donors which attracted parents and students and teachers who visited the sale. The used book sale generated funds which supported educational outreach programs and programs for underprivileged areas throughout Vietnam.
Showcasing Talents and Traditions
The stage performances served as a major highlight of the day because they united the community through admiration and celebration. The performance lineup showcased a rich tapestry of talent, including:
- A Korean drumming ensemble that mesmerized the audience with rhythm and precision
- Traditional Chinese lion dance and martial arts demonstrations
- A student jazz band playing upbeat, crowd-pleasing classics
- Dance groups presenting contemporary and cultural pieces
- A fashion show featuring traditional attire from various nations
The performances at the fair deepened community members’ understanding of HKIS diversity and talent while supporting the fair’s cultural exchange goals.
Asian Tigers: A Sponsor That Moves More Than Boxes
Asian Tigers Group provided event sponsorship that extended beyond logistical support. The company demonstrates both international relocation expertise and global perspective and community values which align with HKIS. The team members of Asian Tigers Group maintained active presence throughout the event by handling organizational tasks and directly interacting with families while sharing their community engagement experiences.
Asian Tigers supported the fundraising activities for the Cao Bang Vietnam outreach initiative which continues to support education and community development in distant villages.
“We’re proud to be part of this special event,” said a spokesperson for Asian Tigers. “It’s not just about relocation—it’s about being connected to the communities we serve and helping create lasting impact, both locally and abroad.”
Giving Back: The Journey to Cao Bang, Vietnam
The theme “Going the Extra Mile” had literal significance this year. The World’s Fair served as both a community celebration and an event to raise awareness about outreach programs in Cao Bang which is a mountainous region in northern Vietnam.
The school has collaborated with local organizations in Cao Bang to support rural schools and provide clean water initiatives and assist with infrastructure improvements. The World’s Fair fundraising efforts enable the organization to send volunteers and supplies to the region which creates enduring positive change for children and families in need.
The fair participants gained knowledge about Cao Bang communities’ difficulties and essential projects through presentations and photo displays and interactive displays. Students and parents showed interest in participating in upcoming service trips which deepened the bond between Hong Kong and northern Vietnam.
Reflections from the Community
The fair continued into the late afternoon as many visitors stayed to avoid ending their day. The environment was characterized by satisfaction together with strengthened relationships and fresh direction.
A parent volunteer at the event stated, “The school fair represents more than its traditional purpose. The event showcases the best aspects of our school community through its display of compassion, creativity and collaborative spirit.”
The student mentioned, “Playing games and tasting new foods brought me joy but the Vietnam trip presentation became my most cherished experience. The experience motivated me to perform something beneficial.”
The World’s Fair served as more than a fundraising event or celebration because it invited people to participate in something greater than their individual selves.
Looking Ahead: The Power of Community
The 2024 PFO World’s Fair demonstrates how family members and students and educators and businesses working together can achieve success. The event showcases a school community that embodies diversity through its celebration of food and music and service and shared experiences.
The future generation develops global citizenship and social responsibility through these essential events which HKIS maintains as it expands its outreach programs and partnerships.
Asian Tigers maintains its commitment to these initiatives because we understand that border movement represents only the first step toward helping people succeed in their new environments.
