I accumulated a lot during my time in Japan (including a husband and two children), but we weren&#8217;t going <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ship furniture and planned to significantly downsize for the move, so we didn&#8217;t think we needed the services of an <a href=\"https:\/\/asiantigersgroup.com\/\">international movers<\/a> like Asian Tigers. How wrong we were! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/asiantigersgroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/learn-from-mistakes_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"431\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22341 size-full\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To cut a long story short, we would have been far better off leaving our move to the experts.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite selling and giving away a huge amount of our possessions, we still ended up with close to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">40 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">boxes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to ship <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; far more than I anticipated. It might sound simple to pack that amount and send things through the post office, but here are some of the challenges we faced: <\/span><\/p>\n<p>1. We realised too late some boxes were weak and worried constantly if they would fall apart during transit&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">durability <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of packing materials is something <a href=\"https:\/\/asiantigersgroup.com\/service\/international-moves\/\">professional movers<\/a> prioritise <\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. We packed as carefully as we could but stressed about fragile items, unsure if they were packed well enough&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">experts are experienced in packing to minimise the risk of damage<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/asiantigersgroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/move-fragile-item.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"469\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22342 size-full\"><span>3. We couldn&#8217;t judge the amount of packing material needed so we kept on running <\/span><span>out&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professional <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">movers <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">organise <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">all <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of the packing materials &#8211; you don&#8217;t need to give <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it a single <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">thought<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/asiantigersgroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/photo_transparent-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"778\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22345 size-full\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4. One item was too large to be sent through the post office so it is still in Japan until we can collect it (no time soon due to&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pandemic travel restrictions)&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Door-to-door movers <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">can ship large items <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">they don&#8217;t have <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the strict <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">weight and <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">size <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">limits you&#8217;re <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">faced <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">with when using the post office <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">couriers&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5. We seriously underestimated how much time it would take (and how stressful it would be!) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pack everything and wasted so much time and energy packing when we could have been enjoying <\/span><b>our <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">precious remaining days before moving&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professional <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">movers <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">can pack in <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fraction <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the time <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">would take <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">you<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">leaving <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">you <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">with <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">less stress <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">more time <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">spend <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">more important things<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/asiantigersgroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/learn-from-mistakes_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"417\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22343 size-full\"><span>6. We didn&#8217;t know where we would end up living when we shipped our boxes so sent half to a relative and half to our temporary accommodation. Of course, the boxes started to arrive just as we moved into our long-term accommodation. Despite setting up mail redirection it was a nightmare to sort out the boxes addressed <\/span><span>to <\/span><span>our temporary accommodation <\/span><b>and <\/b><span>the logistics of collecting boxes from my relative&#8217;s place was another hassle we didn&#8217;t need in the middle of moving.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your delivery address <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">doesn&#8217;t <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">need to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">be <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">locked in ahead of time with <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">door-to<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">door movers. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">your <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">shipment is ready<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the movers will confirm your <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">address <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and coordinate <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">suitable time for delivery.&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">could turn back time, as soon as I knew we were likely to be moving I would contact a respected international mover like Asian Tigers to organise a quote and leave the rest <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the experts.
