How should I pack my belongings?
In a local move, for environmental purposes, we recommend packing with plastic bins and reusable boxes that are in good condition. We can also supply new boxes.
How long will packing take?
Time to pack depends of the volume of move and the services required. We can be more specific once the pre-move survey is done. Our experience tells us:
- 1,000 sqft flat = a partial 20-foot container, and may take 1 day
- 1,000-1,500 sqft flat = a full 20 foot container, and may take 2 days
- 1,500 to 2,000 sqft flat = between a 20 and 40-foot container, and may take 2-3 days
- 2,000 or larger + at least one full 40-foot container, may take 3-4 days
What can I do to prevent mold and mildew?
The best thing you can do is leave air conditioners and dehumidifiers operating in the days leading up to your packing. This is the most effective way to reduce latent moisture in your furniture and clothes.
Keep in mind: Heat and humidity speed up the onset of mold and mildew but do not generate the spores directly. It is a good idea to thoroughly launder and dry all clothing and linen right before packing. Furniture should be wiped down with disinfectant to minimize mold and mildew spores.
Can I pack the items myself?
Don’t pack yourself; let us do that for you! That’s what you are paying us for. We are professionals, so relax while we take care of you.
If you really want to pack some items yourself, we can deliver materials to help you so you can do it right. Important: do not close or seal the boxes because transit insurance explicitly excludes PBO (packed by owner) items. Insurance also requires us to note the condition of items as they are packed so let us finalize pack those boxes and avoid insurance issues.
Are uninstalling and reinstalling home appliances part of your mover’s duties?
Our crew will uninstall and reinstall simple, basic home appliances if it is just a matter of plugging or unplugging. If it requires plumbing, electrical wiring, or mounting on a wall or ceiling, then a qualified, licensed handyman is required. We can arrange handyman service for you (extra charges will apply, so ask your Asian Tigers move consultant for details.)
Can you arrange for a split pick up or delivery?
Yes. We can arrange split pick up or delivery, so please mention during the survey. Additional charges will apply, and we can include these charges in the quotation if you so wish.
Do I need to be present on the day of packing?
Yes! OK, it may not be mandatory, but it is highly, highly recommended. Invariably questions come up that only you can answer, so it is vital that you be onsite during the packing.
What if the building is difficult to access?
If you know from your previous relocations that some items were difficult to move in or out, please let us know. Difficult access may require additional charges which include stair and long carry service, shuttle service, hoisting service, etc.
Can my family stay in the same house or flat during packing?
Yes. Work out the specifics with your Asian Tigers move coordinator. We often pack a bed or two last so that our customers can stay in their flat until the last minute.
How do you keep track of boxes?
We use barcoding to tag and identify each package. The packages will be labeled and tracked during the entire move process.
Can I ship food or alcohol?
No. With few exceptions, there should be no food and alcohol in the shipment. Food can spoil and attract pests. Food is subject to quarantine regulations, and alcohol is likely to be prohibited outright or, at best, incur heavy taxes and duties.
Any other restricted items that I should not ship?
Items such as firearms, weapons (even ornamental swords), illegal drugs, flammable goods, dangerous goods, products made from endangered animals, counterfeit items, etc. If you have any doubt if an item may be restricted, speak to your Asian Tigers move consultant.
Can I buy new furniture to add to my shipment at the last minute?
OK, but notify your move consultant as soon as possible. We will need to check if the volume of goods, after these additions, will fit into the container we have arranged for you.
My destination is not confirmed. What should I do?
We can still pack your goods and store them in our warehouse or at the destination until you have confirmed your destination address and obtained your required permits.
I would like to ship my car. Can I ship it together with my household goods?
Yes, but it is seldom a good idea to ship cars. The cost and the administrative paperwork are significant. So, yes, we can ship cars, but they will require separate individual containers because most countries restrict the co-loading of automobiles with household goods.
I have a piano, will you be able to handle it?
Pianos are items that we handle on a regular basis. A specialist will be present to handle and move specialty items such as pianos, safes, pool tables.
What if there is a typhoon on the packing day?
When typhoon signal #8 (and above) is hoisted, we will cease operations immediately until the signal has been cancelled to ensure the safety of your goods and our employees and to comply with HK Government regulations. We will operate normally under all other typhoon signals.
How should I handle my jewelries?
Do not pack valuable jewelry in your shipment. We strongly recommend that you hand-carry your jewelry to your new home.
